Women suffering from tuberculosis of the female genital organs usually have no symptoms, especially in the early stages. Often infertility is the only symptom.

Tuberculosis is the world’s deadliest infectious disease, affecting more than 10 million people every year. India accounts for more than 30 percent of the global TB burden.
In 2021, 30 lakh new TB cases were estimated in India. About 38 percent of the world’s TB deaths occurred in India.

Diagnosis includes laparohysteroscopy and a dye test. Women known to have genital tuberculosis are treated with ATT (anti-tuberculosis treatment). ATT is the first line of treatment for women with confirmed genital TB.
According to doctors, one of the ways to protect against genital tuberculosis is to definitely treat pulmonary tuberculosis effectively. Doing so can prevent it from spreading to the reproductive system. They also suggested practicing safe sex methods and getting vaccinated with a doctor’s advice.
“Also, women with genital TB can get pregnant through assisted reproductive technologies (ART) like IVF with appropriate drugs. So talk to a fertility consultant and clear all your doubts about pregnancy,” Arora said.
